Our coastal region is defined by its connection to the water from St. Andrews Bay to St. Joseph Bay and the Gulf. These ecosystems are not only vital to our environment, but also to our economy, our history, and our community’s way of life. Yet for many students and families, access to meaningful, hands-on marine science education is limited.
The Aquarium & Marine Science Center is rooted in a simple idea:
If we want future generations to understand, protect, and engage with the coastal habitat, we have to create opportunities for them to experience it in a learning environment.
Emerald & Forgotten Coast Adventures has established a strong foundation through immersive, field-based marine science education. Each year, thousands of students participate in hands-on experiences across our local ecosystems, learning directly in coastal dune lakes, seagrass beds, and along the Gulf.
These programs are making an impact. But they can also be limited by space, weather, and access.
The Aquarium & Marine Science Center is the natural next step to expanding this work into a permanent facility where learning can continue year-round and reach even more students.

While our area offers incredible natural resources, there is currently no centralized facility dedicated to marine science education at this scale, one that brings together hands-on learning, research, and community engagement in a single, accessible space.
This project is designed to fill that gap.
By creating a dedicated marine science center, we can:

Education is at the core of this project. The goal is not only to inspire curiosity but to support long-term learning and development through real-world experiences.
The Aquarium & Marine Science Center will:
By investing in education, we invest in the future of our community.

Beyond education, this project is designed to serve as a long-term asset for Panama City and the surrounding areas.
It creates opportunities to:
This is about creating something that benefits both current residents, visitors, and future generations.
Momentum for this is already building. With strong participation in existing programs, support from community leaders and educators, and ongoing conversations around the future of Panama City’s waterfront, there is a unique opportunity to move this project forward.
As planning continues, community awareness and involvement will play a key role in shaping what comes next.
The Aquarium & Marine Science Center represents a long-term commitment to education, conservation, and community connection.
By expanding access to marine science and creating a space dedicated to learning and discovery, this vision has the potential to make a lasting impact across the Florida panhandle’s coastal communities.
